There are a couple of local light-aircraft companies in Cairns that operate tours around the region.
Daintree Air Services operates out of Cairns but specialises in flights as far as Cape York and offers tours of up to four days that include camping and sight-seeing in the region.
They also have a reef flight that will take visitors for trip over the Great Barrier Reef.
Aero-Tropics Air Services also flies out of Cairns and can take visitors to the top end including a flight over the tip of Cape York and to the Torres Strait islands.
Both companies also offer charter flights around the region and make pit stops at some of the more outlying areas.
People with mobility issues who are flying in the Cairns region are catered for as long as the company is informed in advance.
Generally children under three years travel free; children from 3-12 years will pay a reduced fare.
Make sure you book in advance as the planes used are small and can fill up quickly.
