cairns caravanning & camping
Two of the most popular activities in the Cairns region are caravanning and camping. Particularly during the relatively mild weather, when large number of interstate visitors head north to escape the cold.
The Cairns region is also a popular spot with the increasing numbers of ‘grey nomads’, retirees travelling around Australia in fully equipped mobile homes.
Another large group of visitors consist of national and international backpackers who are often to be found in their brightly (sometimes rudely) decorated mini-vans dotted around the region.

There are a number of Cairns caravan parks city and the surrounding area and most Cairns caravan parks also offer camping sites.
However, camping is not allowed on the Cairns Esplanade or in any Cairns City Council Parks or Cairns beaches.
Outside of Cairns there are numerous National Parks with established camp sites.
However, a number of them need permits for camping and / or setting up a campervan or mini-van and since spaces are limited, visitors need to book a camping spot.
For more information on camping permits in Australian National Parks go to the EPA’s parks and forests webpage.
It is also possible to book and pay for a camping permit online by going to the Queensland Government’s park management website.
There are a number of excellent caravan parks in the region with many of them also offering budget accommodation in the form of cabins.
The bulk of these parks also offer camping spots, both with electric power connections and without.
If you are looking for a great, relatively cheap, family holiday there are a number of ‘caravan resorts, which offer a huge number of activities for kids, everything from mini-golf and kids only swimming pools to craft classes and nature walks.
Below is a list of some of the most popular Cairns caravan parks, particularly those offering onsite activities, and a comprehensive list of the caravan parks available in the Cairns region.
