from cairns, 3:02pm Tuesday
Good on Julia for standing up and doing her job "Strongly representing her electorate" unlike most of the politicians in this state Andrew Fraser, Warren Pitt, Jason O\'Brien who are stone deaf to the wishes of the majority of this division, your time is limited in office, why not have the b##ls to admit amalgamating the Douglas Shire was a mistake, we are far too different to Cairns in too many ways. De-Amalgamation is the only way to go, give the people of this shire the chance to re-elect its\' destiny, this is what we were waiting for in the next council election before it was taken from us. We have gone from the gang of 4 to 1 voice in 10. Good on you Julia we will be there at the meeting on the 26th August in Mossman to support OUR Shire.
from Port Douglas, 2:34pm Tuesday
I can just imagine the Mayor relishing Councillor Julia Leu\'s cross examination from her comfortable high chair. Give Julia her job!
from Cairns, 1:35pm Tuesday
Maybe I am missing something here, but councillors used to be called "public servants". If this is the case maybe they should start SERVING THE PUBLIC! Julia at least has the guts to!
from Cairns, 1:20pm Tuesday
Hats off to you Julia for having the intestinal fortitude to stand up to these council bullies. With the exception of Rob Pyne who also has guts, the rest of them have their snouts in the trough. They have no idea how to run a business. Maybe that\'s why they are councillors - they wouldn\'t survive in the real world if they had to run a REAL business!
from Cairns, 1:16pm Tuesday
Full marks to Julia Leu for her stance which is in the interest of the people who voted her in and also Rob Pyne for his concern and support. This Council is a product of the S.E.Qld power base and stinks of deceit and corruption. Aword of advice to all who were elected represent your voters or perish at the next ballot. Forget about Schier and her pack of jackals they won\'t be there after the next ballot.
from Mt Sheridan, 12:54pm Tuesday
good on you Cr Julia Leu the people elcted you and you are representing them. If more elected representatives showed some guts and not bow to publis servants the country would be better off.Cr Rob Pyne keep it up son you have spirit like your father Tom.
from innisfail, 11:16am Tuesday
Talk about a case of shooting the messenger! Julia Leu is doing precisely what most of these other council seat-warmers should be doing - i.e. supporting their constituents, acknowledging their wishes, and speaking up for their rights. The fact that she gets verballed by this pack of bullies and the appalling Warren Pitt is quite simply, disgusting. (And for the record, Julia achieved over 75% of the vote - a figure which reflects the regard in which she is held by this community).

from Cairns, 9:26am Tuesday
How many of the other CRC Councillors can claim they had 60% of the vate? Julia did...Why, because she belives in her community and we believe in her!CRC has destroyed our local Council workforce and Cairnsfleet trucks now spend hours driving up and down the highway, dead workforce hours everywhere. Even contractors come from Cairns bypassing local contractors.Water restrictions when we have no shortage or storage, rates rises everywhere. Anyone would think that Cr. Blake is STILL running the show!
from Port Douglas, 8:04am Tuesday
Well said Brendan! We have paid dearly for the State\'s undemocratic and forced local govt. reform process Mr. Pitt has once again confirmed what a charade it was/is. I don\'t remember any of the terms of reference for the Reform Commission including "any council that has a bunch of rogue councillors". Douglas actually met every one of the terms of reference. He is, however, quite correct in stating that there were senior management issues, but this community (after much protesting) had managed to get Melchart sacked just before the merger announcement.Mr. Pitt needs reminding that this community doesn\'t tolerate poor governance. Bring on the State election.

It\'s pathetic.. if we want to see all these beautiful creatures in 10 years we have to stop. Fish in other places just no the reef.Im just annoyed and shocked people could be so careless!!
from Cairns, QLD, 2:13pm Monday
Has John Molony looked in the mirror lately, or is he in need of a look alike for a soul mate.
from Mt Sheridan, 1:01pm Monday
Yet this party would have gone down without incident had the police not turned up because a bunch of sooky nobodies didnt like the music.Im sick to death of these antisocial sooks who think its their life mission to dob in everyone around them for trivial crap. Loud music and a party on on night OMG ITS THE END OF THE WORLD CALL THE COPS.I hope he is keeping a critical eye on his neighbours from now on, dobbing them in for anything he can.

from Carins, 11:24am Monday
Regular visitors that been playing there for years, finally get their money back.Pokies should be illegal, and if it was put to public vote im sure they would be gone, but like that will happen with the amount of tax dollars floating around.
from cairns, 11:18am Monday
LOL, the public cant even get what they want at a local level. Its obvious you can never get what you want from any other part of government either.I thought this was a democracy, and people elected worked for THE PUBLIC, not for their own agenda. Its time these overpaid idiots got a nice kick in the bum from mr and misses public.
from Cairns, 11:12am Monday
There was a current affair story the other day about people can not afford to pay rates because rate was gone up similar to Cairns AT 15% so they signed petition and it was on channel 9.WE SHOULD DO THE SAME BECAUSE THAT IS NOT RIGHT FOR THE RATE GONE UP THAT MUCH AND COUNCILLORS ARE MUCKING AROUND.
from Cairns, 10:05am Monday
Another \'sponsored\' article by a real estate agent telling us that now is a great time to buy.Supply is reducing because demand isn\'t there. Good luck to you mate.
from Cairns, 8:34am Monday
This is so typical of a Qld state government representative, treating the voting public like a bunch of ignorant and ill-informed peasants with no right to a fair democracy. The member for Mulgrave is by association the delusional one, his comments are inflammatory and misleading and in no way resonable. Mr. Pitt, you are holding the tail of a very angry community with a mighty big bite!
from Port Douglas, 7:39am Monday
there is an old saying"the truth hurts"t is about time these media hungry councillors shut up and got on with doing their job ! with the huge rates we pay here it is about time we change the crireria to hiring council officals and not electing them ,then we would get the best people for the job ,not media monkeys we get now , well done minister pitt for barrelling one of these glory seekers !
from , 5:50am Monday
well at least they got some of there money back .

what\'s worse... sex or violence? least he didn\'t take a gun to school
from Brisbane, 7:15pm Sunday
An Education Queensland spokesman confirmed the Year 4 student had been suspended for taking an inappropriate photograph to school and using it to harass other kids.Qld is dictated to by (un-elected)captain Bligh and her PC, out of touch fools who claim to represent the voters. They should concentrate on the real problems- like EDUCATING kids for a change.
from brissy, 5:29pm Sunday
If this is a State school maybe the principal should be suspended for failing to apply the principles of natural justice when dealing with a complaint, the article (if it\'s correct, which being in a news limited publication is doubtful) states that neitrher the principal nor any of the teachers saw the photo but he/she deemed it bad enough to suspend the 10 year old. I think we have enough evidence here to suspend the principalfor incompetence.
from Bellbird Park, 5:20pm Sunday
Bentley park is crap
from Cairns, 2:47pm Sunday
how ridiculous, people are hell bent on hiding the real world away, your children will end up as tortured and paranoid as you. These people are so hung up over nothing they need some real world counselling (fun) I hope this man sues.
from , 2:14pm Sunday
i am the one who had the photo
from , 2:13pm Sunday
Bentley Park College appears to be a Government owned school. You would expect thie "over the top" reaction from a private school, run by bible bashers, but this is way over the top. This is not even a "minor infraction\' as quoted by Mr.Langbroek. it\'s a ntohing issue, and i would question if the Prinicpal of this establishment is a "bible basher" himself. some of these Principal\', who are so called Christian\'s), often bring their own "hang ups" and church attitudes to school with them.
from Brisbane, 1:29pm Sunday
OUCH
from , 9:13am Sunday
Wouldnt it be in Councils interest to not persue this with such agression? What if its to much for CEC and Roy pulls the plug? A truck load of unemployed people caused by a non-caring money grabbing council will be the result.
from Cairns, 8:27am Sunday
Ah, this is Cairns - where it is legal for topless women to sunbath in the Main Sreet? To me that means it would be appropriate for the kid to take a photo from the main street of a topless women to school if he wanted to, ( ITS LEGAL! ) little own the photo of a but in a G string!
from Moreton Bay, 7:20am Sunday
Your blog is interesting! Keep up the good work!
from AlexM, 3:34am Sunday
More pathetic political correctness. For God\'s sake, get a life. What next, Target catalogues being banned from letter boxes because a model might be seen with knickers on! Christ, go to the beach any day of the week and you\'ll see more than a G string. And anyway, since when is the female form pornographic? I dare any PC fool to tell me that my body is somehow offensive. I dare you. Idiots. I hope the father sues the school and the idiot teacher is sacked. Morons.
from melb, 11:22pm Saturday
I hope the school only suspended the boy because he was harassing other students with it as alleged by the Education Department. If this is not the case then I hardly see how taking a photo of a bikini clad woman to school should cause such a problem. In any case, how does one harass another person with a photo? What thee???
from Adelaide, 6:36pm Saturday
As a regular visitor to Cairns I have enjoyed many a social luncheon with friends at the Cairns Yacht Club. This building has been open to the public for years! Anyone can sign in, come up for a drink at the bar, or enjoy a fabulous lunch overlooking Trinity Inlet, for very little cost. The Dancefloor is one of the best in the country, and the whole facility is a joy to be in - such natural ambioence far removed from the slick artificilaity in many other venues. And, on top of all this, a history going back 100 years! The Yacht Club itself may be relocating to other premises but that does not mean that another small piece of Cairn\'s original history should be demolished. Surely it can be maintained and kept as a social venue, as now, for the benefit of the whole community. A city that denies its heritage is doomed to failure. I hope to visit this wonderful old building on my next visit. Good luck PADYC!! Keep up the fight!!
from Agnes Vic, 6:30pm Saturday
You must be joking! The little boy is in Grade 4. Which "bra-burner" was behind that decision?
from Brisbane, 3:50pm Saturday
Bloody QLD Ambulance service suffers from a miserable set of managers. The service badly needs a management clean out and some real managers, with real interests of the public to be put in charge. Get rid of that lazy leader in Brisbane and start thinking about real customer service. This is a critical service and it is treated as a hobby.
